Sensitive Skin Care Products

There are a number of facts you should know about sensitive skin care but first it is important to learn just what sensitive skin is. Sensitive skin is defined as skin that cannot cope with the effects of the environment or other conditions like certain materials or products that irritate it and can cause redness and sometimes swelling. For this reason, some products that can deal with hyper-sensitized skin conditions are especially labeled as sensitive skin care products.

There are a variety of sensitive skin care products available owing to the fact that not everyone that has hyper-sensitive skin has the same problem. One thing that is almost constant though is the way sensitive skin will almost always react badly to any type of detergent and any products where the formulation is chemical based.

The damage may be happening over a period of time without the affected person actually knowing as it is a matter of their tolerance level that will actually show up the problem. Obviously the tolerance level for those individuals with sensitive skin is much lower which means that skin damage might be more rapid and noticeable.

Manufacturers are now more aware of what compounds can cause problems and corrective measures are taken where ingredients are replaced with compounds that do not cause problems or the amount of irritant is reduced to acceptable levels. By using only sensitive skin care products you will dramatically reduce the sensitivity you experience but the products contents will still need to be looked at.

The rule of thumb here is, if you are unsure what to choose, purchase the ones with the least chemicals (if any), colorings or additives in them. A good place to start is with the products you clean you skin with like cleansers and stoner’s because these products almost always use alcohol or a substitute s the active ingredient.

The procedure if washing is to be done is protect your hands with rubber of other type of protective hand wear as detergents are one of the biggest skin irritants. A further problem is often caused buy the sun, so use special sunscreen if you intend to spend time in the sun.

Dust and other atmospheric pollution can also be a problem so it is advisable to put some form of barrier or moisturizing cream on (even if it isn’t sunny), or a hypoallergenic moisturizer will do if you can’t find a specific sensitive skin care product. Use soap-free and alcohol free cleansers and cleanse your face whenever you return from spending time out doors but do not scrub or exfoliate too hard as it can cause reddishness and even inflammation.

Never leave makeup on for extended periods and wherever possible use hypoallergenic makeup removal products that will not make the skin worse.While there is a great deal to think about if you have a sensitive skin condition, it is a matter of getting into a routine and know what causes the irritation as this will save you time and distress.
